Le smoking the unconventional unfit

Le smoking transformed fashion and style as we know it. Le smoking was not conventional and defied rules. Moscato d’Asti is similar.

At a time when fashion fashion appears to not be going away, there is one outfit that has stayed true to its classic style and elegance. At a times when the trends change as fast as the wind and true style is harder to find, le smoking or the tuxedo has stayed.

Yves Saint Laurent created le smoking in the late 1960s and at first it was not well received. The fashion press didn’t understand it. They didn’t understand the concept of dressing “like a man.” Why would women want to look like a man? But, Yves Saint Laurent saw something different. He saw women as powerful and capable of being her own woman and although the outfit appeared masculine, his version was feminine because of the woman wearing it.

Unconventional and women were not a mainstream item like it is today. The women’s liberation movement had started, but was not fully embraced. It was a moment when women were entering the workforce rapidly and the perception of a woman’s role was changing. Le smoking solidified that changed whether the world was ready for it or not. Yves Saint Laurent saw something in women and wanted to express it through his clothing. Although the initial response wasn’t positive over the years le smoking has made its way around the world. It is no longer seen as a man’s outfit it is seen as a power outfit for a woman.

Le smoking transformed fashion and style as we know it. It allowed women to present their own personal aesthetic and power through clothes. Le smoking was not conventional and defied rules. Moscato d’Asti is similar. Although it is often confused with just being a wine that is for only for dessert. Moscato d’Asti can easily transition from an aperitif to pairing with a meal.

Moscato’s terroir matches le smoking in being unconventional. Moscato d’Asti grapes are grown on steep slopes which have to be cultivated and picked by hand. It is not an easy process. It can’t be mass produced which makes it special and unique in its own way. It is unconventional in how it’s made and on the palate.
